Flirting with Despair – A Poem

Flirting with Despair

Becoming reacquainted at the station café,
I have been flirting with Despair
for the last few weeks.
I was picking up a banana nut muffin,
and a carton of low-fat milk,
she a Thai Iced Coffee.
We reached for the same straw.
Our hands touched.

She is a lovely little heathen
with a sixties vintage fashion sense.
Her charming crooked smile and
mischievous eyes
tangle my heart,
walnut curls blessed with streaks of red

lick her neck.

Tea Leaves – A Poem

Tea Leaves

Enjoying the flavor
of my tea
with you
I share my leaves.
A hidden blend
kept
in a copper coffee tin
on the high shelf
by the twined
dried roses
and the garden shears
sleeping.
Gently portioned
into an earth ware
pot
their essence
diffuses
passionately
in the hot
water.
Measured amounts
softly poured
into
slender
porcelain cups.
Oolong
fragrances of cinnamon
honey
and orange blossoms
fills the room.
An aroma
bringing life.
Dreamlike
the burgundy moon
settles in the west
for us
as we
sip the tea
a red glow
illuminating the icy
rhododendron
branches
scratching at the window.
In the shadows of the room
the steam caresses
our cheeks
our bodies warmed
in the lost
spell my tea
leaves
weave.

Paradise Fades – A Poem

Paradise Fades

Making the bed, quilts billowing in brief suspension

The coming spring is creeping in.
Your tight floral patterned skirt
and heavenly curves
make me light up a cigarette.

Choking dust settles on the floor boards,
in my coat pockets,
and on the still life print of a vase over-stuffed with gladiolas
that hangs above the bed.
